Brain Disorders
What are Brain Disorders?
Brain disorder is an umbrella term describing any conditions or disabilities that affect the brain. There are a whole host of brain disorders, so we organize them into groups that have similar causes and symptoms.
Neurodegenerative Diseases
In these diseases (such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's), nerve cells in the brain or peripheral nervous system lose function over time and eventually die.
Brain Tumors
A mass or abnormal growth of cells in the brain. The causes of brain tumors are unknown. There are many different types of brain tumors, varying in severity, location, and size.
Psychiatric Disorders
These disorders (AKA mental disorders or psychological disorders) affect behavior, mood, and thinking.
Neuromuscular Diseases
These diseases (such as ALS) affect the nerves that control muscles and movement.
Brain Injuries
These injuries (such as concussions and strokes) are normally caused by forceful impact or injury with a dull object of the brain.
Neurodevelopmental Disoders
Disabilities in the functioning of the brain that affect children's behavior, ability to learn, or memory.
