Learning/Language Disabilities
What is Fast Forward?
Fast ForWord was developed for learning-disabled and language-impaired children. Through various computer games, the program trains temporal processing. Whenever a goal is achieved, there is a funny and memorable animation that pops up. This helps to create rewards. These rewards trigger the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and acetylcholine, essential to solidify the changes made in the brain map. Before and after the Fast ForWord training children would take a standardized language test. The results showed that the average child who used the Fast ForWord training had boosted their language development skills by 1.8 years in the six-week program. In some children, such as Wully Arbor, Fast ForWord training helped them become more articulate and helped them recognize and hold on to more words. In autistic children like Lauralee, this language training also helped her recall more.
